Today, my new book, “Atlas of biodiversity – Ecosystems to protect,” has reached the bookstores! Published by Sassi Junior, it is the second volume of a series I’m working on.
The first one was dedicated to unusual animals and their incredible ability to adapt to the environments in which they live. In this case, the protagonist is the environment itself.
The naturalist Emanuela Durand has selected 13 ecosystems, all with unique characteristics and balances. The journey through the five continents begins in the Galapagos Islands, so loved by Charles Darwin, to finish in a place where few humans have set foot: the dry valleys of McMurdo in Antarctica.
On this trip, Emanuela and I have chosen an exceptional guide, a tiny being resistant to all possible conditions and comfortable in all environments: the small and indestructible tardigrade!
It is his task to talk about the longest river in the world, to tell the curiosities of Lake Baikal and the animals and plants of Mongolia, without holding back in exploring the glow-dotted darkness of the Waitomo caves.

For each ecosystem, I started searching for images that could help me fix the idea of colors and the atmosphere. Then, I identified the best form that could describe the place. This element was also part of the synthesis needed to represent an entire environment and its richness and enclose it in the pages of a book.

For example, the Amazon River flows at the bottom of the pages. At the same time, Borneo protrudes from the book in all directions, as lush and rebellious as its forest.

This book has been challenging for the large number of animals and details to evaluate and choose to represent each ecosystem in the most complete and clear way. I must say that I immediately forgot the fatigue when I saw the result. I am really proud of this volume!
I am also grateful to this project because it allowed me to explore themes that I believe are really important and immerse myself in these natural paradises to discover, protect, and be enchanted by.
