I am passionate about legends and folklore. In every place I go, I always look for local legends but I have also begun to be interested in beliefs related to some animals. I have found many about the birds that inspired me.
For this illustration I was inspired by the belief that the sighting of magpies would reveal the future.
In Germany, it was believed that if a magpie shrieked near a house, an unwelcome guest would have arrived.
An old Irish rhyme teaches how to predict a birth by sighting four magpies.
“One for sorrow,
Two for mirth,
Three for a wedding,
Four for a birth”.
